The late Ward Dunham Martin, jd '33, was born September 6, 1909, in Pueblo, Colo., the son of Robert Ivan and May Dunham Martin. He grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School. He attended Washburn College, where he served as Grand Master of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and was an active participant in varsity football, basketball and track. He also was a member of Sagamore men's honor society. He graduated with a degree in law in 1933. Martin practiced law in Topeka for 60 years and served two terms as Shawnee County Attorney from 1940-1943. During World War II, he served as a captain in the Marine Corps, stationed in the Pacific flying missions with an air combat intelligence team. Martin served as an active alumnus of Washburn College. He married his college sweetheart, Eloise Wolcott Martin, on October 6, 1934, in Larned, Kan. She died in 1989. He passed away March 18, 2004, in Cape Coral, Fla.
