Sylvester  A. Skoch*

Sylvester A. Skoch, b ed '55, was born on November 28, 1915. He grew up on a farm near Seneca, Kan. He graduated high school in 1937, after taking time off to work on the family farm. He took county teacher's examinations in the spring of 1937 and began teaching in rural schools. Skoch then entered the military and served during World War II and the Korean War. During his years in the U.S. Army, he was called upon to teach in a variety of ways. He taught a group of men to read and write letters to their families and taught skills like map reading and first aid. In 1959, he earned his M.S. from the University of Kansas. 

Skoch spent 35 years in the teaching profession, instructing students at public schools, as well as members of the U.S. Army. For 20 years, Skoch was a teacher at Meredian Elementary School in Wichita.
