The Delta Gamma Educational Foundation of Topeka was established in 1966 after the Topeka tornado destroyed the Washburn University Alpha Kappa Chapter house on campus. Ruth Garvey Fink (Delta Gamma Iota Chapter, University of Illinois) spearheaded the drive to fund the Foundation and to legally form its incorporation. Since 1971, over $73,800 has been donated by the organization for Washburn University student scholarships or for educational projects. The national Delta Gamma Foundation headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, provides funding for the following educational programs that benefit members throughout North America: Collegiate Development, Consultant Program, GreekLifeEdu, Lamps of Knowledge, Leveraging Leaders, PRO Programs, scholarships, loans and grants. Delta Gamma Fraternity was founded in 1873 in Oxford, Miss. Washburn University Alpha Kappa chapter was founded in 1920.
