  Hill's Pet Nutrition

Hill's Pet Nutrition has more than 900 employees - including many Washburn University graduates - at its headquarters and Pet Nutrition Center in Topeka and at its manufacturing facilities in Topeka and Emporia. Hill's Science Diet®, Hill's Prescription Diet® and Hill's Ideal Balance® pet foods are sold in more than 95 countries and manufactured in six locations around the world. Its mission, to help enrich and lengthen the special relationship between people and their pets by providing the best pet nutrition in the world, started more than 70 years ago with Buddy, the first Seeing Eye dog in America.

In 1939, a young blind man asked Dr. Mark L. Morris, Sr. if anything could be done to help his guide dog, Buddy, which suffered from kidney disease. Dr. Morris developed a special food for Buddy that was based on his belief that certain disease conditions could be managed through precisely formulated nutrition. This revolutionary formula would become the world's first therapeutic pet food, Hill's® Prescription Diet® k/d®, and Hill's Pet Nutrition was born.

That dedication and commitment is alive and well today, as Hill's donates to Washburn projects such as the William Lyman Dibble Professorship in Financial Management and reporting, the Sunflower Music Festival and the Hill's Pet Nutrition Business Scholarship.
