The Fred and Mary Koch Foundation was established in 1953 and focuses its resources on not-for-profit organizations in Kansas that significantly enhance the state's quality of life through arts and arts education, human services, enablement of at-risk youth, and education.

Fred C. Koch was born on September 23, 1900 in Quanah, Texas. He graduated from the first class in chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1922. He moved to Wichita in 1925 and in 1940 co-founded the Wood River Oil and Refining Co., now Koch Industries, Inc. He died on November 17, 1967 

Mary Clementine Robinson was born October 17, 1907 in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1929 and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute. She loved the arts and was an accomplished artist, expressing her passion through drawing, painting, and silversmithing. She married Fred C. Koch in 1932, and they had four sons. She died on December 21, 1990
