John R. Adams, honorary doctorate '08, was born May 25, 1922. Adams grew up in Topeka and liked to attend art classes at the Mulvane Art Museum. He graduated from Columbia University with a degree in architecture. He spent time working in New York and Kansas City before returning to Topeka. Adams served as the lead designer for the Henderson Learning Resources Center and the original plan for the Stoffer Science Hall on the Washburn University campus. He was also involved in the design for the Fidelity Bank in downtown Topeka, Topeka West High School, the initial phase of Aldersgate Village, Security Benefit downtown building, Blue Cross & Blue Shield computer building and campus renovation, among many other projects and buildings.
