John R. Hamilton, jd '65, was born January 1, 1940 in El Dorado, Kan. Hamilton received his bachelor's degree from Union University in Jackson, Tenn. Hamilton returned to Kansas to attend Washburn University School of Law. Hamilton's area of practice is focused on eminent domain matters. He handles condemnation and personal injury cases. In 2009, Hamilton authored the "Eminent Domain-Practice and Procedure" chapter in the Kansas Real Estate Practice and Procedure handbook. Hamilton co-authored the Kansas Chapter of "Law and Procedure of Eminent Domain in the 50 States," as well as Condemnation Land Use and Zoning Committee, Litigation Section, for the American Bar Association in 2009. For the past five years in U.S. News and World Report's Best Lawyers of America Hamilton has been recognized in the field of eminent domain. Furthermore, Hamilton is recognized as the only lawyer practicing eminent domain in Missouri by Kansas Super Lawyers. He is currently a senior partner with the Hamilton, Laughlin, Barker, Johnson, and Watson firm of Topeka. John's late wife, Louise Hamilton, served on the board of directors of the Friends of the Mulvane Art Museum and supported the Mulvane and the Washburn University Department of Art. Together, the couple had seven children and eight grandchildren.
