James  W. Sloan

James W. Sloan, ba '50, jd '52 and honorary doctorate '09, was born on December 30, 1927 in Hoxie, Kan. His family moved to Topeka when he was about two years old. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1945 and proceeded to attend Washburn University. As a student, he was president of Alpha Delta fraternity, participated in the Washburn Choir, the men's pep club and the Washburn Players. Sloan later served in the military. In 1955, he became a partner of the Topeka law firm Sloan, Eisenbarth, Glassman, McEntire & Jarboe L.L.C. From 1959 to 1961, he served as assistant Shawnee County attorney. Sloan retired from the firm in January of 2008. Sloan enjoys attending Ichabod sporting events and volunteers at Mabee Library.
