Mike & Connie  Laughon

Mike Laughon, bs '66, was born January 26, 1943. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kansas. He received a degree in Biology. While at Washburn, Laughon played on the football team and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he served as president. Following graduation, he began a career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, now AT&T. During his 34 year career, he held management positions in the departments of traffic, operator services and procurement and managed employees in four states. He also serviced as District Manager in Hays, Kansas. In 1992, Laughon moved to the external affairs department and represented the company in various programs sponsored by the State of Kansas. 

Laughon married Connie Hedberg, B.Ed. '67. She graduated from Topeka High School. She received her Bachelor of Education in 1967. At Washburn, she was a member of Young Republicans and Alpha Phi sorority. In May of 1966, she was elected May Fete Queen in a Washburn all school election. Connie taught for 25 years, serving 19 years as a kindergarten teacher. Most of those years were at Shawnee Heights Elementary School, where she retired in 2002. 

Mike and Connie are active members of their church and have one adult son.
