The late Florence E. Green, ba '35, was born March 3, 1914 in Topeka, the daughter of John J. and Elizabeth Miller Green. She graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University. While at Washburn she majored in English and was in NoNoSo and Delta Gamma sorority. After graduation, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and managed book shops in Topeka, Atlanta and Houston. During WWII, Green spent four years in the Army Signal Corps. She was a senior signal shift officer in Italy during her last two years of service. She later received a master's degree in Middle East Studies and Arabic from the School of Advanced International Studies in Washington D.C. In 1948, she became a research scholar on the Middle East for the federal government in Washington, D.C. and the Middle East. In 1961, Green moved to Texas to work on a doctorate at the University of Texas in Austin. She then worked for the Texas Employment Commission before she retired in 1981. She returned to Topeka in 1989. She died January 25, 1998.
