Jack Richmond, ba '50 and honorary doctorate '00, was born on August 15, 1928. While at Washburn, he majored in history and was a member of Alpha Delta fraternity and the Washburn Players; he served as president of both groups. After graduation, Richmond served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He then taught in junior high schools in California and Kansas. In 1956, he accepted a position at Southwestern Bell, an opportunity that led to a 12-year career. In 1968, he started Richmond Enterprises, Inc., in San Antonio, Texas with one under-performing Pizza Hut. The company has expanded to 32 units. His wife, Laura (Graves) Richmond, ba '62, runs the accounting and finance side of the business. Laura was born on August 23, 1937. While at Washburn, she majored in math and statistics and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. They have three sons.
